CyberSafety Tips and Rules

  1. Never give out personal information to anyone you meet on the Internet without getting your parents' permission first. Personal information includes your full name, address, telephone number, your parents' names, your parents' work address/telephone number, your parents' credit card information, or the name and location of your school.

  2. If you see any images or information that make you feel uncomfortable tell your parents immediately.

  3. Never agree to visit anyone you have met online without first getting the permission of your parents. Even if your parents give their permission always bring a parent along with you and meet in a public place.

  4. Don't send anyone that you meet online a photograph of yourself without getting permission from your parents.

  5. If you receive any messages that you feel are mean or make you feel uncomfortable in any way, do not respond to them and alert your parents immediately.

  6. Talk to your parents about what rules you have to follow when spending time online. This should include the amount of time you may spend online, what sites you may visit, whom you may send e-mail to, and whom you may chat with.

  7. Never give your password to anyone, including your friends. Even if someone sends you message saying they are from your Internet Provider — don't believe them — tell your parents.

  8. Good citizenship online is important. Be courteous and polite when sending e-mails, chatting, or posting to online bulletin boards or guest books.
